It was such a wonderful day today. The kids came in excited and ready to learn. I had a great time getting to know each of the children. I really enjoyed meeting many of you parents as well. Please note that it might take me a few weeks to recognize which parent goes with what student. I appreciate your patience as we find our groove. Today we spent a good portion of the morning going over our classroom procedures, reading books, and getting to know one another. The kids were quite excited to hear about all the things that make third grade "special" -- strings and recorder class, learning cursive, using the iPads, getting to eat in the cafeteria without any other grade level (this one might have been the favorite), having both recesses on the lower field, and so much more. One reminder is that our lunch time is later than what they are accustomed to in first and second grade. Please send a snack for morning recess for the next few weeks and beyond. It was slightly amusing how many times they asked about lunch time. There were some hungry bellies today. I am excited for this year and cannot wait to watch the children grow and mature. Look
I am amazed that it is that time of year again and hope that your family had a wonderful summer break!
The summer has sped past for my crew, filled with lots of fun, family adventures. We took a multi-family camping trip near Mammoth. We had such a blast hiking, playing in the stream, and just hanging out with friends. My husband and I celebrated our 15th anniversary by heading to Kauai (without the kids.) We had such a wonderful time, which included a helicopter ride (doors off -- highly recommend it) and some stand up paddle boarding. We visited our local pool and library often, as well as throwing in some park and beach time. After completing the L.A. Marathon this year, I decided to continue to focus on my running, but maybe not quite at that distance. I'll be running my next race Labor Day weekend. Saturday I will run a 10K and Sunday a half marathon in and around Disneyland. Mrs. Mascari and I are partners in crime on this one. It has been such a fun adventure.
My two kids have been helping me get the classroom ready over the past few weeks. They love to "help" get things set up and organized. My "baby" will start Kindergarten and my oldest will be entering 4th grade. I cannot believe how fast time is moving. I'm looking forward to getting to know your kids too. We have such a rich curriculum in third grade and I cannot wait to dive into it with them. Here's to a wonderful third grade experience!
